Whistleblower Case Brought by Sadowski Katz Clients Against Psychiatric Medical Practice Settles

Sadowski Katz clients Jodie Cohen and Medical Bill Consultants, LLC and the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut have settled a False Claims Act qui tam action against CPC Associates, a Danbury, Connecticut psychiatric practice, and its founder, Dr. Anton Fry.   Ms. Cohen and Medical Bill Consultants alleged in their complaint that Dr. Fry and his practice failed to meet some of their patients in person to provide psychiatric services, but instead, and unlawfully, had brief telephone conversations with those patients and nevertheless billed Medicare.

Ms. Cohen is a former patient who uncovered her allegations by reviewing her explanations of benefits with the help of Medical Bill Consultants, a patient advocate company which also does business as Medical Bill Detectives.

Raphael Katz and Robert W. Sadowski of Sadowski Katz LLP represented the whistleblowers along with their co-counsel Andrew O’Toole of O’Toole + O’Toole PLLC.  Mr. Katz said: “This case shows that even individual patients as well as patient advocates have the ability to root out healthcare fraud.”
